It's still slow, and relative to a well written client (C/C++) using QT or GTK+
it is molasses. I've been sortof elected by the OpenVerse masses to write a
GTK+ OpenVerse client, but at the current moment I dont have the free time to
allow me to start working on such a project, but I intend to shortly. (within
weeks)
I have extensive experience with 2D graphics programming, code optimization,
GTK+ programming, and multithreaded programming, the only aspect of this project
that is new to me is socket programming, which is simple enough.
I will be writing this client in C using GTK+ for GUI primitives, anyone
interested in working on the project should email me directly or make their
interest known on the list so we may collaborate and get this moving as soon
as possible, please mention your programming skills and experience if you wish
to contribute to the project.
