I agree that there should be a sound configuration. The actual playing of
the sounds would be easy to do via an external sound program since we're
talking tcl here. and the program would be configured just like you
configure the browser command.

Personally for that, I would be careful with what options are turned on by
default in that :) I am reminded of ICQ 99a where every event down to
keystrokes in chat sessions have sounds, and it comes by default with
every single sound turned on, and is annoying as hell :)
I would push for maybe the default configuration to have maybe just sounds
for messages turned on. Like, the other sounds could have default
soundfiles configured but unchecked, or something.

Hm, this sounds a bit interesting. Maybe each person could have a
personal beep sound or something, accessed via ^G or something, and there
could be an option to dl those sounds like dl'ing avatars option. and
people who don't wanna dl the sounds could turn that option off.
and just like avatars can only be up to 320x200, the wavs or whatever
could be limited by filesize.
