guard duty aided by Yuffie's "Enemy Away" materia, while the others rested
fitfully and recovered their strength.

+ Narration/Vincent's thoughts: It was during these times that I found the
opportunity to observe my companions freely, their defenses lowered while
they slept.
+ [[Nanaki, looking distraught.]]
+ Vincent (narrating): Nanaki fared the worst of us.  I understood now why
he was so reluctant to return to the Crater with Yuffie. He mentioned that he
could "hear" the voices of the monsters before, but it was obvious that he felt
more than he admitted to either of us.  With his eloquence and intelligence,
it is easy to forget that he is not simply a short, four-legged human.
It became clearer in this place, though, where all defenses are stripped away.
