Don't get ahead of yourself there. :)
Proprietary software is as dead as Open Source software is in the everyday
mainstream.
ICQ, YahooIM(?), AOL IM(?), RealPlayer G2.
It's sad but most of the non-educated Windows people believe the network
that is known as IRC is called mIRC simply because mIRC is the client they
use to get there, and that's a somewhat minority (maybe not too much of
one, but from what I have noticed) in which most ppl use Yahoo Chat and
other web chats to chat with people. Even less people know about FTP and
how to use it. and UseNet? pfffff... I'd like to find one non-geek who
knows what the hell that is :)
Most non-geeks don't know about most of the OpenSource net progs out
there.. so how can proprietary software be dead if that's all they use?
anyway .. end of rambling :)
go check out the Quake 1 source story on Slashdot, it's rather
interesting. Someone has posted an article argueing that the design flaws
that allowed cheating would not be possible if Quake 1 had always been
OpenSource.

That would be a good idea. Slashdot is fond of taking a piss at the legal
system :)
