Re: [OpenVerse] Img1.2.2

OK,

Lets lay this to rest once and for all. I've had a shit day and forgive me if
I'm sounding harsh.

I WILL NOT ADD ANYTHING WHICH IS NOT SUPPORTED IN THE TCL CORE.

Before I get on to why, there is nothing stopping anyone from doing it
themselves and creating an OV fork but let it be known, i'll not be including
it in the TCL client. If you do create a fork, be aware you will need to
create/modify a server which can validate your new image type.

Now, why...

This program is intended to be as cross platform as possible. By introducing
extensions to TCL you defeat this purpose and I will not take part in that. As
it is, there is platform problems still n the macintosh and I really need to
work them out. I'm not interested in any extensions to TCL at all as it would
be impossible to maintain copies of the extensions on all platforms which TCL
(and OV) works on.

On a brighter note, the underlying protocol does not require GIF files, if you
write a GTK client and a server which can validate the files, it will happily
work over the same protocol which the tcl client uses. TCL client users will
not be able to see the non-gif avatars, they will instead see their installed
default avatar so someone writing a client/server which supported image types
other than GIF would not shutting out the users of the TCL client.
