[OpenVerse] Re: QuakeForge and another idea...
Is there a possibility of a 3D Openverse? I know we've beat the topic
about here before but I don't remember where we ended up.
A successful online community will have all things you find IRL. Good,
bad, ugly, all. (and there will also be some sort of justice for those
who abuse the rules)
I've got another idea and I guess I should post it to the list. I seem to
remember in SnowCrash there were 'grim reaper bots' who would come and
carry away a 'dead' avatar. It might be cool to have a reaper bot who
would come and drag avatars off screen after a certain period of
inactivity. I've noticed more and more folks staying logged in while they
sleep, work, wankoff, whatever and its probably not too cool for newbees
who show up and think nobody wants to talk to them.
In my twisted mind I can see myself logging in and then wandering off to
check my email. (pushing OV down in the z order)
Meanwhile after five minutes of inactivity the reaper appears and grabbs
my avatar dragging off the nearest edge of the OpenVerse. Folks active in
the same room get a laugh at the reaper hauling me off.
When I'm finished with my email and I give OpenVerse any kind of input my
av comes racing back in from offscreen. I was not logged off, my av was
just offscreen to free up space in the room and make things nice for those
who were there actually using the room.
Some other bots that might be fun... A janitor bot who sweeps up dead URL
or FILE icons. A Kissbot that flys from your av to the one you want to
kiss giving them a big sloppy wet one. (kissbot looks like lips)
Possibly a newsbot that will alert someone with an old version that there
is fresh code to be downloaded, or that your custom avatar is just too big
and it won't work.
Things to avoid: Paperclip bot that offers to bollocks up your machine.
Have a nice day! :-)
